Bellevue developing new Hazard Mitigation Plan

Bellevue, WALocal News

Bellevue is in the process of developing its first comprehensive Hazard Mitigation Plan, aimed at improving the city's resilience to natural disasters. As part of this initiative, an online open house has been launched to engage the community in discussions about local hazards and gather valuable feedback. Residents are encouraged to express their concerns and suggestions by November 6, contributing to a plan that will identify vulnerable areas and outline strategies to reduce risks associated with natural hazards like droughts, floods, and earthquakes. The city's efforts began with a risk assessment to pinpoint specific vulnerabilities in Bellevue. This proactive approach not only enhances disaster preparedness but also positions the city to secure federal and state funding for mitigation efforts.

After the online open house, the city will draft the Hazard Mitigation Plan, allowing for community review and input in early 2025. The finalized plan is anticipated to be adopted by the City Council in spring 2025. For more information about this initiative and other emergency preparedness efforts, residents can visit the Office of Emergency Management's website.
