Electric Vehicle Roadmap open for public comment

Bellevue, WALocal News

The City of Bellevue is actively seeking public input on its draft Electric Vehicle Roadmap, aimed at accommodating a projected increase in electric vehicle (EV) usage. Currently, only 9% of vehicles in the city are electric, but this figure is expected to rise to more than 30% by 2030. To support this growth, the roadmap outlines strategies for enhancing the necessary infrastructure, including a significant expansion of public charging stations, from fewer than 650 to over 2,800. This initiative is part of the Sustainable Bellevue Plan, which has set ambitious goals for EV adoption—25% by 2030 and 100% by 2050—alongside a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. City staff have been working on the roadmap since last winter, incorporating feedback from community members and stakeholders to ensure the plan meets local needs.

The public comment period runs from September 9 to September 23, allowing residents to voice their opinions on the draft. Bellevue's efforts reflect a growing commitment to sustainability and responding to the increasing demand for electric vehicles. The roadmap represents a proactive approach to preparing the city for a greener future.
