City hires director for human resources and diversity, equity and inclusion work

Bellevue City Manager Diane Carlson announced the appointment of Bindi Lassige as the new director of human resources and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, effective November 24. Lassige brings over two decades of HR leadership experience, including significant tenure at the Gates Foundation, where she transformed HR policies to enhance fairness and transparency. Carlson highlighted Lassige's dedication to building people-centered systems that advance equity and strengthen organizational culture. Under Lassige's leadership, the HR department will oversee the Diversity Advantage Team and various employee services, including labor relations and recruitment. Lassige holds a Master of Business Administration in human resources and change management and a bachelor's degree in economics.

She has also held leadership roles at Assurance IQ, Promethean, Microsoft, and General Electric. Joy St. Germain, the current HR Director, will retire after 36 years of public service, including eight years with the City of Bellevue. This transition marks a significant step for the city as it aims to enhance its reputation as an inclusive employer in the region.
