Council Roundup New five-year Sustainable Bellevue Plan
On Tuesday, Bellevue City Council adopted the 2026-2030 Sustainable Bellevue Plan, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 through comprehensive strategies. The plan, updated from the original 2021 version, focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing climate resilience across five key areas: climate change, energy, mobility, waste, and natural systems. Proposed actions include expanding the Energy Smart Eastside program and promoting building decarbonization. In another agenda item, the council amended the draft 2026 State Legislative Agenda to include priorities such as addressing the affordable housing crisis and funding transportation projects. Amendments urged the legislature to avoid tax proposals that could disadvantage the state and seek local flexibility in regulatory requirements.
The legislative session, starting January 12, 2026, will be crucial for incorporating city needs into state policy. Additionally, the council updated the Mini City Hall program, expanding its services to better serve the community. The new facility, opened in May 2024, enhances access to essential resources for residents facing barriers.
