Storm damages 70-year-old baseball fields

Austin, TXLocal News

Volunteers at the Delwood baseball complex are working to restore the facility after storms caused extensive damage, leaving only three of five fields playable. The complex, which serves over 200 young players, suffered significant losses, including the roof of the concession stand and damage to the grandstand. Delwood leaders are seeking to raise $50,000 to make the park safe and playable again, highlighting its historical importance to the northeast Austin community. President Ross Pry expressed hope for local support, stating that the complex deserves care after years of dedication to its revitalization. The city's slow repair processes add pressure as September approaches, when the fall season begins.

So far, organizers have raised more than $10,000 toward their goal. Earlier this year, Delwood partnered with organizations to enhance the fields, investing about $75,000 in improvements. The city plans to begin repairing the concession stand roof soon, followed by fencing repairs in July.
