More Severe Storms Forecast for Central Texas After Last Weeks Destructive Weather

Austin, TXLocal News

Central Texas braces for severe storms anticipated late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, prompting a warning from the National Weather Service. The storms could bring large hail, damaging winds, and significant rainfall, following a week of severe weather that resulted in one fatality and left tens of thousands without power in the Austin region. Storm activity is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon in Llano and Burnet counties, progressing southward toward Austin. Austin Energy reported that power has been fully restored to over 72,000 customers after extensive repair efforts from the previous week’s storm damage. High temperatures on Tuesday are projected to reach 93 degrees, dropping to 76 degrees by evening.

The National Weather Service classified the impending storm threat as a level two on a five-point scale, advising residents to remain vigilant. Significant locations, including the Texas Capitol rotunda and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, reported storm damage last week. The forecasted storms arrive less than a week after a severe weather system wreaked havoc across the region, disrupting essential services and damaging infrastructure.
