On May 5, Burnet Middle School implemented three safety holds triggered by a gun-related social media post and a medical emergency. Shortly after the initial lockdown, school resource officers confiscated an unloaded firearm from a student who shared a photo online. The district commended the reporting student and the swift actions of law enforcement. Additionally, a medical emergency concerning a school community member required immediate EMS response, though details remain private. Later, a third hold was initiated due to a separate social media post showing a firearm in a vehicle, which was investigated and found not linked to any students at the school.

These incidents highlight the critical role of student and community awareness in maintaining campus safety. The school district has yet to announce any disciplinary actions regarding the student involved in the firearm incident. Austin ISD urges the community to report suspicious activity to enhance school safety.
