Explosion Near Northwest Austin School Damages Campus, Injures Six
An explosion in northwest Austin on Sunday resulted in the destruction of a house and injuries to six individuals, sparking a swift response from local authorities. The blast occurred just before noon in the 10400 block of Double Spur Loop and is believed to have caused the two-story home to collapse. Texas Gas Service clarified that the residence did not have access to natural gas, leaving the cause of the explosion under investigation. Among the injured, one person sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition, while two others were severely hurt; two firefighters were also slightly injured while assisting at the scene. Nearby Laurel Mountain Elementary School, located just half a mile away, suffered damage, including broken windows and disruptions to water and electricity services in some classrooms.
The Round Rock Independent School District confirmed that the school would largely remain open on Monday, with temporary repairs made to ensure safety. Officials emphasized that the safety of students and staff is a top priority, and support will be available for affected families. As investigations continue, residents in the area have been urged to report any lingering issues related to the explosion.
