Austin HSEM Activates Emergency Operations Center in Response to Winter Weather

The City of Austin is taking proactive measures in response to winter weather conditions by activating the Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center (ATCEOC) on January 20, 2025, at 7 a. m. The Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HSEM) is collaborating with city departments and organizations to manage the crisis effectively. With temperatures not expected to exceed 40 degrees, Cold Weather Shelters will operate around the clock starting Monday, allowing individuals who stayed overnight to remain throughout the day. In addition, the Austin Public Library will provide warming centers at select branches for residents seeking refuge from the cold.

The City urges community members to stay informed through the alerts page and social media channels, where updates will be shared in multiple languages. The HSEM emphasizes the importance of taking precautionary measures for safety, including protecting pets and property. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect, along with a Winter Storm Warning, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Residents are encouraged to prepare adequately and utilize available resources to ensure their safety.
