Homicide Investigation at 717 East 7th Street

The Austin Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at a Citgo gas station on January 18, 2025, at approximately 3:02 a. m. Officers found 23-year-old Chivalos Lockett unresponsive in the front passenger seat of a vehicle and were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly thereafter. The suspect, 25-year-old Zion Singleton, was arrested on the scene and charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators discovered that Singleton, a documented gang member, had illegally possessed a firearm and shot Lockett after he entered his vehicle. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. This incident represents the third homicide case in Austin for 2025, highlighting ongoing concerns about gun violence in the community. Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Austin Police Department or Crime Stoppers, with a reward of up to $1,000 available for tips leading to an arrest.
