A double homicide investigation is currently underway in Austin, Texas, following a tragic incident that occurred on September 21, 2024, at around 12:08 p. m. The Austin Police Department responded to a call for a welfare check at a home on Brookhill Drive, where concerned neighbors reported that Chevy Kyler Monaghan was refusing to allow anyone to check on his grandparents. Upon arrival, officers were informed by Monaghan that his grandparents were unharmed, but they later discovered Shari Mallory-Maxa and Anthony Maxa dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were called to the scene to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

The investigation quickly revealed that Monaghan had shot and killed his grandparents, leading to his arrest and charge of Capital Murder. This incident marks a significant moment for the community as it represents the 44th and 45th homicides in Austin for the year 2024. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
