APD Detectives Search for Suspect in Connection to an Aggravated Assault

The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating an aggravated assault that took place on November 16, 2024, around 5:25 p. m. at Republic Square Park in Austin. The victim was attacked by a man wielding a knife while performing his job duties, resulting in a significant laceration to the left side of his face. Responding officers quickly identified the victim and gathered details about the assailant, described as a black male aged between 50 and 60 years, who walks with a limp.

Witnesses reported that the suspect was last seen wearing a white shirt with the slogan 'We Never Give Up,' gray pants, and black shoes. Investigators tracked the suspect’s movements to a Capital Metro Bus stop near the intersection of Oak Springs Drive and Ridgeline prior to the assault. The APD is seeking the community's assistance in identifying the suspect, emphasizing that any tips could be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in public spaces and the importance of community vigilance in reporting crimes.
