Third phase of detours on the Butler Hike and Bike Trail starts September 30

Austin, TXLocal News

The City of Austin is set to implement a new detour for the Butler Hike and Bike Trail starting on September 30, 2024, as part of ongoing efforts to construct pedestrian bridges over Waller Creek. This detour, expected to last until mid-December 2024, will feature a temporary creek crossing, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to traverse the area without dismounting. To ensure user safety, the entire detour route will be fenced on both sides, and users are urged to be cautious, especially near construction entrances. This detour represents the third phase of The Confluence, a significant initiative aimed at revitalizing Waller Creek and creating a 1. 5-mile greenway that connects Waterloo Park to Lady Bird Lake.

The project is designed to stabilize creek banks, improve water quality, and provide enhanced access to nature. Construction on The Confluence commenced in May 2023, with an expected completion date in 2026. Additional features of the project will include new lattice bridges, elevated walkways, and various recreational spaces. For updates on trail closures, residents can visit TheTrailConservancy. org.
