Travis County to Relocate Flood Recovery Center Closer to Big Sandy Creek
Travis County is relocating its Flood Recovery Resource Center from Danielson Middle School to improve accessibility for residents impacted by flooding in the Big Sandy Creek area. The decision follows a decline in attendance, as many residents found resources at localized impact sites. Pilar Sanchez, head of Travis County Health and Human Services, noted the need for better positioning to assist those affected. The center will officially close on Wednesday at 6 p. m.
, allowing Danielson Middle School to prepare for the upcoming school year. Local resident Kalena Shoemaker highlighted the challenges many faced in accessing the center, stating that ongoing support is crucial for recovery. As the community shifts focus from immediate supplies to long-term restoration, the relocation aims to facilitate recovery efforts. Residents can now access services at two more convenient locations on Round Mountain Road and at the Jonestown Community Center. This change reflects the county's commitment to addressing the evolving needs of the community as they rebuild their lives.
