Atlanta's 'water boys' accused of using Cash App to scam more drivers

Atlanta, GALocal News

In Atlanta, victims have reported being scammed out of significant amounts of money by teens selling water at street intersections. Tristen Richardson, one victim, attempted to send $2 via Cash App but was tricked into sending $1,100 instead when a seller manipulated her phone. Richardson filed a police report, joining others who have experienced similar scams, with one man losing $1,000 at the same intersection. Earlier incidents included a woman who lost $800 through a QR code linked to the water sellers. The Atlanta Police Department has acknowledged multiple reports of these scams but could not provide immediate details on ongoing investigations.

Richardson's emotional TikTok video about her experience has gone viral, prompting many to warn others to avoid engaging with the water boys. She is currently disputing the transaction with Cash App and has started an online fundraiser to help cover her losses. Authorities advise drivers to exercise caution when approached by these sellers.
