Diaper Need Awareness Week: Metro Atlanta nonprofit calling on community to help fill diaper gap

Atlanta, GALocal News

Diaper Need Awareness Week, observed from September 23-29, 2024, aims to shed light on the critical issue of diaper accessibility for families in need. Helping Mamas, a metro Atlanta nonprofit, is striving to collect 300,000 diapers and raise $50,000 to support local families facing such challenges. CEO Jamie Lackey emphasizes the increasing demand for baby supplies, noting that nearly half of American families experience diaper needs due to economic hardships intensified by COVID-19 and inflation. Helping Mamas has been a vital resource in Georgia for ten years, distributing millions of essential items to parents. They are hosting a Community Diaper Donation Drop Off Day on Saturday, where community members can contribute to this important cause.

Donations will help supply over 150 partner organizations with necessary items. The first distribution of collected diapers is scheduled for October 5 at the Hapeville branch of Fulton County Libraries. Lackey reiterates the importance of community support, stating that everyone wants the best for their children, which motivates people to give back.
