Anacortes, WALocal News

Steve Berentson photographed various birds, including Canada Geese and a bald eagle, in Rosario, Cranberry Lake, and Anacortes. Despite his efforts, the noisy kingfisher remained elusive. As a fourth-generation Skagit County native, Berentson has cherished his return to Anacortes since 1980, celebrating its natural beauty and community spirit. He appreciates the area’s rugged beaches, pristine lakes, and extensive forests, which provide a habitat for diverse wildlife. Berentson offers prints of his photographs for $12, aiming to share the beauty of Fidalgo Island.

His work reflects both the natural assets of the region and the connections he has with its residents. With a focus on local wildlife, Berentson’s photography serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural environments. This commitment to the community and its wildlife resonates throughout his journal entries.
