Dakota Creek celebrates golden anniversary

Anacortes, WALocal News

Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) is gearing up for a public celebration on April 17 to mark its 50th anniversary, inviting the community to tour parts of its shipyard in Anacortes. The event will kick off at 3 p. m. in the Fabrication Building, showcasing the company’s rich history and contributions to the maritime sector. With a workforce of 200 to 400 employees, DCI specializes in a broad spectrum of work, from constructing new vessels to performing maintenance and repairs.

Among its most notable projects are the research vessels “Neil Armstrong” and “Sally Ride,” which honor two legendary U. S. astronauts. Since its establishment in 1975 and subsequent move to Anacortes in 1977, DCI has significantly evolved, initially focusing on crab boat construction and later expanding its capabilities. Key improvements over the years include the acquisition of a drydock and the installation of a syncrolift, enhancing operational efficiency.

This anniversary not only celebrates DCI's legacy but also emphasizes its vital role in the local economy and the maritime industry at large. The event promises to be a memorable occasion for both the company and the community, reinforcing the bonds fostered over decades of service.
