Its an ace. Pickleball gets its own Washington license plate
Washington launched a new pickleball license plate on November 20, 2025, celebrating the sport designated as the state sport in 2022. This is the second of seven specialty plates approved by lawmakers earlier this year, with significant support from the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association. The association successfully gathered 3,500 signatures to advocate for the plate, overcoming legislative challenges before it was included in an omnibus bill. The plates will cost $157. 25, with a portion of the fee allocated to building and maintaining public pickleball courts.
In the lead-up to the launch, the association held an auction for the first plates, with proceeds supporting court development. The plate honors Sen. Bill Ramos, who championed the initiative before his passing. The law allows for 13 specialty plates, with seven currently being phased in, while the timeline for the remaining six is contingent upon various factors. Other upcoming plates include themes such as pollinators and a Smokey Bear design for wildfire prevention.
