New Mayor elected, Fidalgo Pool ballot measure fails
Anacortes voters rejected a proposal to improve the Fidalgo Pool, with 57% opposing the ballot measure. Ryan Walters, currently serving on the city council, won the mayoral race without opposition, securing a new leadership role. In the city council elections, Luke Currier significantly leads with 69% of the early vote against Teresa Dekarosa, aided by endorsements from key leaders and unions. Incumbent Carolyn Moulton holds a 62% lead over challenger Courtney Orrock, while incumbents Bruce McDougall and Anthony Young will be re-elected without opposition. In the Anacortes School District, directors Meredith McIlmoyle and Diana Farnsworth also faced no competition and will continue their roles.
Dr. Joe Mulcahy has taken a substantial lead over incumbent Chip Bogosian for the Hospital Director position. Skagit County officials reported counting 20,149 ballots, with around 5,000 still to be processed. The next update on the election results is expected on Wednesday evening.
