Preparing for the Rains
Volunteers from the Skagit Land Trust undertook trail maintenance on Guemes Mountain, ensuring the trail remains safe and accessible for hikers. The team focused on crucial tasks such as repairing water bars and clearing drainage ditches, which are essential for managing rainwater runoff. Led by Jonathan Worley, Emily Schauble, and Max Morange, the group was well-prepared with tools and safety gear. A new volunteer, Chris, joined the crew, providing extra muscle to stabilize a bench that had become unsafe. After three hours of labor, the team reached the summit, enjoying well-deserved sandwiches and stunning views.
The Guemes Mountain Trail, built in collaboration with 175 volunteers and the Washington Trails Association, has been a community asset since 2011. Local conservation efforts have helped restore the mountain's ecosystem, which was logged in the '90s. This project highlights the ongoing commitment of the community to maintain its natural treasures for future generations.
