Anacortes, WALocal News

Anacortes Mayor Matt Miller spoke at a showcase event on September 4, celebrating Marathon Refinery's receipt of its sixth consecutive Energy Star Award from the EPA. This recognition places the refinery among the top 25 percent of U. S. refineries in terms of energy efficiency. With a workforce of about 400 employees, Marathon also made a notable philanthropic contribution of $695,000 to the local community last year.

During the event, Refinery Manager Cameron Hunt reiterated the company's commitment to safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Skagit County Commissioner Peter Browning and Marathon Community and Government Affairs Manager Matt Gill were also featured speakers. Gill introduced volunteer members of the refinery's Community Advisory Panel, showcasing local engagement. The event attracted numerous guests, including elected officials and community leaders, highlighting the refinery's local significance. Marathon's ongoing efforts in environmental stewardship reflect broader trends in the energy sector towards sustainability and community involvement.
