City, Port authorize agreements to support future event venue in Anacortes

Anacortes, WALocal News

The City and Port of Anacortes formalized their commitment to a public event venue by signing interlocal agreements on August 18. The agreements outline a 50-50 cost-sharing model for design and construction, with the Port managing the venue's operations. The project, estimated to cost $8 million, will be financed through a general obligation bond and revenue from the Local Tourism Advisory Committee. Port Commission President Shawn Ottenbreit noted the venue's role in enhancing the local economy, while Mayor Matt Miller stressed its significance to community identity. The City and Port began collaborating on this initiative in March 2024, exploring design concepts and funding strategies.

Design work is currently in its early stages and will proceed through 2026, with construction projected to start in 2027. Both entities will actively engage the community for feedback throughout the process. For updates, residents can visit the project webpage.
