Jason Momoa Back in Action in Chief of War
"Chief of War," set to debut on Apple TV+ on August 1, stars Jason Momoa as Ka‘iana, a warrior fighting for the unification of the Pacific islands before Western colonization. This groundbreaking series is the first drama told by Kanaka Maoli, the Indigenous people of Hawai’i, and features a predominantly Polynesian cast. Alongside Momoa, the ensemble includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, and newcomer Kaina Makua. The project is a passion endeavor for Momoa and co-creator Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett, who shares Native Hawaiian heritage. At the premiere on July 18, Momoa described this moment as the pinnacle of his career, emphasizing the importance of having his family present.
"Chief of War" seeks to address the lack of Polynesian-centric narratives in film, offering a unique perspective on Hawaiian history. The series will release new episodes weekly, concluding on September 19. Captions in English will accompany the Hawaiian dialogue to make the story accessible to a wider audience.
