Anacortes, WALocal News

The City of Anacortes and the Port will hold a public meeting on August 18, 2025, to discuss new interlocal agreements for a planned event center. This facility, to be located at the corner of Ninth Street and R Avenue, aims to support community events and stimulate local economic activity. Mayor Matt Miller emphasized the importance of creating spaces that bring residents together and boost the economy. The City and Port signed an initial agreement in March 2024, which has led to the development of design concepts and funding strategies. Construction on the event center could begin as early as 2027, depending on funding availability and design status.

The agencies plan to continue engaging the community for input throughout the design process, which is expected to last until 2026. They will explore funding sources, including city lodging tax revenue and state grants. This project is seen as a significant investment in Anacortes' future, aiming to attract visitors and enhance downtown activity.
