Pierce County Firefighters Join Wildfire Response Efforts in Los Angeles

A team of firefighters from Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula has been deployed to Los Angeles to assist with wildfire response, particularly fighting the Palisades fire, which has significantly impacted the region since January 7, 2025. As of January 19, the fire has scorched nearly 24,000 acres, destroyed approximately 3,000 structures, and claimed the lives of eight civilians. The firefighters, including Lt. Adam Morse, are part of a larger strike team from Washington state, tasked with protecting homes in the Bel-Air neighborhood. They have found the damage to be beyond anything they have previously encountered, with Lt.

Morse citing stark contrasts with past wildfires in Washington. The team is conducting safety checks in evacuated areas and assessing properties to prepare for possible fire spread amidst ongoing red flag warnings. Their deployment is planned for at least two weeks, subject to the evolving situation. Firefighters from various states are collaborating at a base camp, demonstrating the national effort to combat these wildfires.
