Goodbye to Plum and 20 years of vegan good eats and memories on Capitol Hill
Plum Bistro, a cherished vegan restaurant in Seattle's Capitol Hill, has officially closed after 20 years of operation, as announced by Chef Makini Howell. In her heartfelt statement, Howell expressed deep appreciation for the community's loyalty. The closure not only impacts the 12th Avenue dining landscape but also signifies the loss of a significant Black-owned establishment that enriched the city's culinary diversity. Located in the Piston Ring building, Plum Bistro was a favorite for locals and visitors alike, offering a variety of vegan dishes. Alongside it, Plum Chopped, its smaller sibling focused on lunch and salads, will also cease operations.
Howell plans to embark on a new culinary venture in the southern part of the city, reflecting her commitment to continue her journey. The end of Plum Bistro serves as a poignant reminder of the ever-changing nature of community dining and the importance of supporting local businesses as Capitol Hill's food scene evolves.
