STG at Kerry Hall already in motion as Seattle Theater Group makes immediate use of its 6M Capitol Hill acquisition
Seattle Theater Group (STG) has commenced programming at Kerry Hall, a historic venue purchased for $6 million from Cornish College of the Arts. Marisol Sanchez Best, STG’s Director of Education & Community Engagement, highlighted the vibrant activity in the building, which includes rehearsals by Grammy-winning musician Jovino Santos Neto's trio. STG aims to enhance the Seattle arts community by providing more rehearsal and theater spaces, with affordable rental options beginning at $10 an hour. The three-story Kerry Hall features a 190-seat theater and ample practice rooms, allowing for expanded programs like AileyCamp and Dance for Parkinson’s Disease. STG plans to raise $10 million over the next three years to support its ambitious programming slate.
The acquisition signifies a commitment to preserving the artistic heritage of Capitol Hill, which has seen Cornish sever ties with its original neighborhood. Local businesses and community members are expected to benefit from STG's presence, fostering a vibrant arts environment. Dwyer emphasized the importance of the building as a rare asset for the city, expressing optimism for its future.
