Stay out of Seattle WA leaders tell Trump troops arent needed

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and Attorney General Nick Brown urged President Trump to refrain from sending federal troops to the city, following plans to deploy National Guard troops to Portland. Harrell stated, “We do not need the federal government bringing in armored vehicles... to make us ‘safer. ’” He plans to issue an executive order aimed at preserving local control and protecting communities from federal encroachment. This response comes after Trump suggested moving the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches out of Seattle due to safety concerns.

Attorney General Brown pointed out that the president's actions appear to target cities that did not support him in elections. Previous military deployments in Los Angeles and Washington, D. C. , faced legal challenges, with a federal judge ruling against troop presence in California under the Posse Comitatus Act. Harrell and Brown are preparing to respond if Washington state faces similar troop deployments.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between federal and local authorities regarding public safety and governance.
