Because they care Fallen firefighters, victims honored at Edmonds 911 memorial ceremony
Firefighters and community members gathered at Edmonds’ Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park for the 24th annual 9/11 memorial ceremony. The event began with a color guard raising the U. S. flag, followed by a moment of silence. Retired firefighter Dave “Bronco” Erickson recounted the events of September 11, 2001, emphasizing the loss of nearly 3,000 lives, including 343 firefighters.
He honored those who participated in the recovery efforts, particularly recognizing retired Edmonds fire captain Andy Speier. Mayor Mike Rosen remarked on the tragic reality that none of the victims anticipated the events of that day. The memorial park features a weathered steel beam from the World Trade Center and glass panes representing each victim, symbolizing the impact of the tragedy. This annual ceremony serves to honor the fallen and remind attendees of the sacrifices made by first responders. It reflects the community's commitment to remembering those lost and acknowledging the heroism displayed during one of the nation’s darkest days.
