PAWS names new chief executive officer

PAWS has appointed R. Harrison Edell as its new chief executive officer, tasked with steering the organization towards its 2025–2028 strategic goals. Edell arrives with over 20 years of experience in animal welfare, having most recently served as chief mission officer at the Dallas Zoo. His previous roles include leadership positions at several prominent zoos, where he focused on animal care and community engagement. Following the recent grand opening of PAWS’ $50 million Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, the largest facility of its kind in Washington state, Edell aims to enhance the nonprofit’s mission.

He plans to spend his initial weeks listening and connecting with staff, volunteers, and supporters. Jen Evans, chair of the PAWS board, highlighted Edell's unique combination of strategic vision and passion for animal welfare. His appointment is seen as a pivotal move for PAWS as it looks to expand its community impact. Edell's deep personal commitment to animal welfare aligns with PAWS' mission to help animals thrive in their communities.
