Vegetable garden beds installed for Edmonds Boys Girls Club

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Snohomish Conservation District (SCD) and Verdant Health Commission have launched the Harvest at Home program to teach children at the Edmonds Boys & Girls Club about gardening. They constructed three raised beds and an herb garden in a space provided by the Edmonds United Methodist Church. Currently, the beds remain empty as club members research what to plant for spring. The kids will also learn to grow seeds indoors throughout winter. Previously, participants in the club's programs harvested vegetables, donating 10% of their yield to the Edmonds Food Bank.

Director Ken Cooper emphasized the enthusiasm children have shown for gardening. This initiative aligns with the club’s Healthy Habits program, which promotes good nutrition and physical activity. The community garden serves as an outdoor classroom, fostering lifelong healthy habits among children.
