Firefighters to host 911 memorial ceremony in Edmonds

South County Fire will host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on September 11 at 9:11 a. m. at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in Edmonds. This ceremony will honor nearly 3,000 victims of the September 11 attacks, including 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 emergency medical services workers. Attendees will gather around a memorial featuring a 1-ton beam recovered from the World Trade Center, supported by stainless steel towers.

The event will feature guest speaker Andy Speier, a retired New York firefighter who returned to Ground Zero to search for his fallen colleagues. In addition to honoring 9/11 victims, firefighters will remember Captain Dean Warren, who succumbed to occupational cancer. The ceremony reflects the ongoing impact of the September 11 attacks on local communities and first responders. The event is organized by South County Union Firefighters IAFF Local 1828. Everyone is encouraged to attend this significant remembrance.
