Washington Conservation Corps gears up for another year of service
The Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) opened recruitment for over 250 member positions, starting Oct. 1, and aims to engage young adults and veterans in impactful environmental work. Participants will tackle projects like removing invasive species, restoring habitats, and responding to local disasters. Historically, members have contributed significantly, planting approximately 400,000 trees and improving 3,000 acres of habitat each year. WCC has partnered with AmeriCorps since 1994, benefiting from its support, though recent federal budget cuts may affect future funding and benefits.
Despite these uncertainties, WCC maintains a budget designed for stability in the 2025-26 service year. Members receive training in essential skills, including wildland firefighting and wilderness first aid. Applications are encouraged soon, as interviews for crew positions will be conducted on a rolling basis.
