Celebrate the magic of Vauxs Swifts at Swifts Night Out in Monroe Sept. 6
The Pilchuck Audubon Society will host Swifts Night Out on September 6 from 4:30 to 8 p. m. at Frank Wagner Elementary School in Monroe, WA, inviting the community to witness the spectacular gathering of Vaux’s Swifts. Each fall, thousands of these birds roost in the school's chimney, which has been saved from demolition and serves as a vital migratory stopover. Attendees can enjoy a presentation on swifts, educational wildlife booths, activities for children, and a food truck on-site.
The chimney hosts over 20,000 swifts on peak nights, making it a globally recognized Important Bird Area. Brian Zinke highlighted the event as a chance for the community to connect with nature and learn about migratory birds. Admission is free, promoting family participation and local engagement. The event aims to inspire attendees to protect local wildlife. For more information, visit the Pilchuck Audubon Society's website.
