Lynnwood council talks utility rates, 18M development contract amid budget concerns

Lynnwood, WALocal News

At the Aug. 4 meeting, the Lynnwood City Council addressed utility rates and an $18 million development contract amid ongoing budget concerns. Public Works Director Jared Bond noted that utility rates have surged around 21% annually since 2023, far exceeding earlier estimates of a 5% increase. The council's rate-setting process involves determining total costs, allocating expenses by customer type, and designing rates accordingly. The proposed development agreement for “The District” represents a significant step in the city's redevelopment efforts.

Should the council approve this agreement, the city will undertake the construction of new streets to support the project. This marks a continuation of the city’s focus on enhancing its core area through strategic development initiatives. The council also plans to conduct further reviews of utility rates in the coming months, with potential adjustments on the horizon. These discussions are crucial as the city navigates its budget crisis.
