On Christmas morning, a heroic act turned tragic when 37-year-old Steven Weatherford, Jr. died in a house fire in Oakland, California. Weatherford bravely rescued several family members but returned to the burning home to search for an engagement ring meant for his girlfriend, LaShante Mayo, whom he intended to propose to on New Year’s Eve.
