State agency honors Island Health CEO

Elise Cutter, CEO of Island Health, has been recognized as Washington State’s 2025 "Community Star" by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. This prestigious award highlights her innovative leadership and dedication to improving rural healthcare through workforce development and community engagement. Under her leadership, Island Health has modernized its facilities, including relocating the helipad and enhancing the emergency department. Additionally, Cutter has forged partnerships with local organizations, ensuring healthcare access for the community's most vulnerable members. This recognition is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first time a Skagit County resident has received this award since its inception ten years ago.

The Community Star Recognition Program, established in 2015, honors individuals making significant contributions to rural health across the nation. Each year, NOSORH celebrates these contributions on National Rural Health Day, which occurs on the third Thursday of November. To date, over 400 rural stars have been honored, showcasing their impact on approximately 61 million people living in rural America.
